Indian Plastics and Rubber Industry

The global production of rubber (natural and synthetic) was recorded at 26702 thousand tons in 2015. India manufactures more than 35000 different kinds of rubber products. India is one of the top five producers of rubber in the world.

Plastic industry is also amongst the fastest growing industries of India. Major destinations for India’s plastic exports include are China, Egypt, UAE, Turkey, Vietnam, and Indonesia. India is one of the most promising exporters of plastics among developing countries. Growing at 18 per cent per annum, country’s plastic packaging industry is expected to reach USD 73 billion in the next four years, says a report.

The plastics industry produces and exports a wide range of raw materials, plastic-moulded extruded goods, polyester films, laminates etc. Plastics and Rubber industry together account for USD 7.3 billion of India’s total exports in 2015 contributing nearly 3% of India’s total export. India’s plastics and packaging industry is forecasted to touch USD 73 billion over a period of four years.
